The East Coast Parkway (abbreviation: ECP, Chinese : 东 海岸 公园 大道; Pinyin : Dōnghǎiàn Gongyuan Dadao; malay : Lebuhraya Taman Pantai Timur) is an expressway that runs along the southeast coast of Singapore.

The expressway is approximately 20 kilometers long and connects Singapore Changi Airport in the east with the Benjamin Sheares Bridge in the south of the main island before merging into the Ayer Rajah Expressway . It also connects to the Pan Island Expressway at Changi Flyover, 1 km from the east end of the expressway.

history

Construction of the first phase of the East Coast Parkway from Fort Road to Marine Parade began in 1971 and was completed in 1974, followed by an extension of Phase 2, which was completed in 1976 to Bedok South Road, Singapore Changi Airport in 1980. They were built on the reclaimed land. Construction on Phase 4, which extends from Fort Road to Keppel Road, began in 1977 and opened on April 18, 1981. It was opened in 1981 to mark the opening of Singapore Changi Airport . Although there were traffic lights in the run-up to the completion of the last flyover in 1989. The Benjamin Sheares Bridge opened at the same time in 1982 and extended to Keppel Road.

Traffic jams during the morning hours led to the introduction of the Road Pricing Scheme (RPS) before it was further developed on April 1, 1998 to Electronic Road Pricing (ERP). It came together with the other portal on Ophir Road.

To facilitate the development of the new city center, the ECP was demolished after the Benjamin Sheares Bridge , realigning the section of Marina Bay after it was converted to a main street called Sheares Avenue , with speeds ranging from 80 km / h to 70 km / H. The evaluation scheme was started on June 5, 2006 and completed on March 15, 2007. A new expressway, Marina Costal Expressway (MCE) , connects the Kalang-Paya Lebar Expressway and Ayer Rajah Expressway and is being built along the coast of Marina South. This has been planned since September 21, 2008 along with the developments at Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa .

This resulted in the demolition of Exit 17 (Central Blvd, Marina South and Bayfront Avenue) heading east and Exits 17A (Marina Place, Marina South, Central Blvd & Bayfront Avenue), 17 (Prince Edward Road) and 18 (Keppel Road) heading West, within the Telok Ayer Flyover.
