Tamtam stool
The tam-tam stool (proper spelling: Tam Tam tabouret) was a popular seat in the early 1970s. An approximately 30 centimeter round seat and a standing area of the same size were connected by a concave outer shell made of plastic , some of which could also be used to store objects inside. The shape corresponds roughly to an hourglass .
His inventor Henri Massonnet actually had in mind a relief for anglers who should sit on it and also stow one or the other utensil in it. But the target group disdained the innovation. From 1968 to 1972 the stool went over the counter millions of times because it was discovered as a practical piece of furniture. The designer - furniture was from New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Paris Museum of Decorative Arts at times added to their collection. The tam-tam stool then went out of fashion. Such pieces are now considered cult objects .
In 2002 an attempt was made to bring the Tamtam stool back on the market, which is based on the original mold number 169 from the Massonnet company Stamp in Oyonnax , Ain .
Trivia
In 2009 the designer Eric Berthes took up the Tam Tam idea again and, together with the company Branex Design, produced a Tam Tam stool with a built-in wireless audio system.
