geography
The nutrient area of the Tanaina Glacier is located at an altitude of 2000 m 20 km southwest of Chakachamna Lake . It borders the Shamrock Glacier to the north and northeast . The Tanaina Glacier initially flows to the southwest, later to the southeast and finally to the south. The 1.1 km wide glacier ends above the Lake Clark Pass at an altitude of about 370 m . Its meltwater flows into the glacier edge lake of a glacier opposite. This is drained to the northeast via the North Fork Big River and the Big River . Another outflow from the lake flows to Summit Lake further west , which is drained by the Tlikakila River . Part of the Tanaina Glacier is located in Lake Clark National Park . The Tanaina Glacier is in retreat.
The glacier was named after the Tanaina Indian people who used to live there .
