Tang Xianhu
Tang Xianhu , originally Thing "The Thing" Hian Houw or Tong Sin Fu ( Chinese 湯仙虎 / 汤仙虎 , Pinyin Tāng Xiānhǔ , Jyutping Tong 1 Sin 1 fu 2 , born March 13, 1942 in Bukit Kemuning , Indonesia ) is a former Chinese badminton player and a current coach of the Chinese national badminton team.
Career
Thing Hian Houw was born in Indonesia and grew up in Jakarta. He was one of the leading youth players in Indonesia. He then worked as a competitive athlete in China from 1961 to 1979. In 1963 he won the individual competition at the Games of New Emerging Forces , and in 1966 at the Asian Games of New Emerging Forces . From 1965 to 1975 he was unbeaten at the National Games in China both individually and with the team. Tang Xianhu won two bronze medals at the 1974 Asian Games . He won one in doubles with Chen Tien Hsiang , the second in mixed with Chen Yuniang . Four years later he won the mixed competition with Ling Changai at the same event and took silver in doubles with Lin Shinchuan . After his active time as a player, he began a coaching career. From 1987 to 1998 he coached the Indonesian national team, then the Chinese.
In 2002 he was inducted into the Badminton Hall of Fame . As coach of the Chinese national badminton team, he took part in the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 and led Ji Xinpeng to Olympic victory .
