features
Tangachromis dhanisi externally resembles the snail cichlids Lamprologus ocellatus and Neolamprologus brevis , whether it spawns in snail shells like these is unknown. Males reach a maximum length of 8.5 cm, females stay a little smaller. The cichlid is 3.2 to 3.6 times as long as it is high. The eyes are very big. The inclined, protruding (protractile) mouth is large and wide and has two to three rows of teeth, the teeth of the inner row (s) being smaller. The thorax and base of the pelvic fin are not scaly, the existing scales are weakly ctenoid . The dorsal fin has 14 to 15 spines, as with most cichlids, the anal fin has three spines. The caudal fin is rounded. The unpaired fins are lined with black.
- Scale formula : mLR 32-34.
