The Limnochromini are a tribe of the cichlids (Cichlidae) that are endemic to Lake Tanganyika and, in contrast to most of the cichlid species that occur mainly in the shallow water of the coastal regions, colonize deeper water layers (40–100 m).

features

Limnochromini species are 8.5 to 23.5 cm long and have elongated, only slightly raised but laterally clearly flattened bodies. The snout is pointed, the mouth terminal. The dorsal fin is long, the pelvic fins extended, the caudal fin is usually blunt. The color of the Limnochromini species is mostly uniformly gray, beige or brownish with only a few contrasting patterns. The fish eat invertebrates that they catch in the open water or sieve out of mud and sand. All Limnochromini species are monogamous and mouthbrooders during the breeding season , in which both parents participate in brood care. The clutches are relatively large and can contain up to 250 eggs.
