Tangail ( Bengali টাঙ্গাইল) is a city in Bangladesh that is part of the Dhaka Division . The district capital, located in the Tangail district, is 68 kilometers northwest of the state capital Dhaka. The city is part of the Upazila Tangail Sadar with 521,104 inhabitants. Tangail's population was over 167,000 in 2011.
The city lies on the banks of the Louhajang River .
history
Tangail has been a popular local business hub since the early 19th century. The city became significantly more important when the headquarters of a subdivision of the Mymensingh area was moved from Atia to there in 1860 due to the fertility and altitude near the Louhajong River .
In the early 1930s the city was electrified. In 1969 the Tangail district was created from parts of the Mymensingh district . In the 1990s, the city was funded by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Bangladesh to develop water supply, sanitation, sanitation, bus station, supermarkets, and other infrastructure.

Infrastructure
The city has a small airfield. In addition, the city of Dhaka can be reached from Tangail by bus and train.
