Kittie is a Canadian nu metal - band .
history
Kittie was founded in 1996 by Morgan and Mercedes Lander. Fallon Bowman came along when she and Mercedes met in PE class. Their first bassist was Tanya Candler, but she left the band in the winter of 1996 (before the first album) due to health problems. She was replaced by Talena Atfield.
In 2001, Fallon Bowman left Kittie and started a new project called Amphibious Assault. Fallon's position on guitar was later replaced by Jeff Phillips, who previously worked as Kittie's guitar technician. However, he only played in live performances and was never seen in public as a full member of the band.
In 2002 Talena Atfield left the band. She was replaced by Jennifer Arroyo. In 2004 another change, the guitarist Lisa Marx replaced Jeff Phillips, because he played full-time again with Thine Eyes Bleed . This was followed (after a three-year break, caused by disputes with her label Artemis Records ) the third studio album Until the End .
The Canadians Trish Doan and Tara McLeod replaced bassist Jennifer Arroyo and guitarist Lisa Marx in 2005. Tara McLeod previously played in the Canadian metal band Sherry .
On February 20, 2007 the fourth Kittie album Funeral for Yesterday was released in Germany . In March 2008, Trish Doan, who developed an eating disorder, was replaced by Ivy Vujic. A European tour followed in autumn 2008.
The fifth studio album In the Black was released in September 2009. A video clip for the song Cut Throat was also released.
Two years later in August 2011, the band's sixth album was released, entitled I've Failed You .
On February 13, 2012, the band announced that Trish Doan was returning to replace bassist Ivy Vujic. Doan died on February 11, 2017 at the age of 31.
style
The band's music style is influenced by bands like Silverchair or Slipknot and can best be classified as New Metal or Groove Metal . In their songs, the band is directed against machos , pedophiles and politicians, among others . Because of the lyrics , some songs have been banned from American radio .
In an interview, front woman Morgan Lander said:
“We didn't feel like pissing around half-naked like Britney Spears and just getting money through our bodies. We often let our frustration out in our songs. "
