Artemis Records

Artemis Records was a New York- based independent label . It was founded in 1999 by Danny Goldberg; Daniel Glass acted as President and CEO . Although the label temporarily had well-known artists under contract such as the Pretenders , Rickie Lee Jones and the alternative singer-songwriter Steve Earle , it ceased its activity as an independent music label in 2006 . After a four-year sub-label presence under the umbrella of V2 Records , the inventory was taken over by Entertainment One in 2010 .

Company history

Label founder Danny Goldberg and managing director Daniel Glass had relevant careers in the music business before founding Artemis Records . Goldberg had started as a journalist for the music magazine Rolling Stone , worked for the Swan Song Records label of the rock group Led Zeppelin and held management positions at Mercury Records , Warner Bros. Records and Atlantic Records . Glass began his career as a DJ in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He later held executive positions at Chrysalis Records , SBK Records , EMI and Universal . Chris Scully (CFO), Greg Barbero (Artemis Classics) and Jeanne Drewsen (Vice President) held other management positions in the new company.

His Weddings - about 2001 to 2003 - had Artemis Records a leading share of the US - Independent market . With gold were awarded or platinum, among other albums by Kittie , Kurupt and Khia and the album Whe Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men . Artemis Records has also published albums by the Pretenders, Rickie Lee Jones, the Josh Joplin Group , Jimmie Vaughan , five albums by Steve Earle and three by Warren Zevon - including Grammy Awards winner The Wind . In 2006, Artemis Records was taken over by Sheridan Square Entertainment LLC (SSE), also based in New York. The new label group included Artemis Records, Artemis Classics, Vanguard Classics, Triloka Records, Tone-Cool Records, Ropeadope, Compendia and the distribution company Musicrama . Another addition in 2006 was the North America Division of Richard Branson's company V2 Records. SSE merged the latter with the former Artemis Records portfolio. The new general name was now V2 North America. In 2009, the newly formed IndieBlue Music Holdings LLC acquired SSE's business, including V2 North America, in a foreclosure auction. IndieBlue, in turn, was acquired by Entertainment One in 2010.
