François de Beaucaire de Péguillon
François Beaucaire de Péguillon ( Latin Belcarius Peguillio ; born April 15, 1514 at Creste Castle near Montluçon ; † February 14, 1591 ibid) was a French bishop , theologian and historian.
Life
He studied theology and graduated with the academic degree of a Magister artium . Afterwards he was a teacher of Prince Charles de Lorraine-Guise , who later became Cardinal of Lorraine. He accompanied him to Rome from 1547–1548 and 1549. After the resignation of Bishop Robert de Lénoncourt , François Beaucaire de Péguillon was appointed Bishop of Metz in 1555 . The episcopal ordination donated him on October 4, 1556 Louis Guillart , Bishop of Chalon-sur-Saône ; Co- consecrators were Nicolas de Pellève , Bishop of Amiens , and Philippe Musnier OSsT , Auxiliary Bishop in Châlons-sur-Marne .
François Beaucaire de Péguillon participated in the Council of Trent in 1562 . Because of the growing Calvinism in Metz, he resigned his episcopate in 1567 or 1568, retired to his country estate at Creste near Montluçon and died there in 1591.
Works
His main text on French history, Rerum gallicarum commentarii , which covers the period from 1261 to 1580, did not appear in Lyon until 1625.
