Taoufik Baccar

Taoufik Baccar ( Arabic توفيق بكار, DMG Taufīq Bakkār ; * July 4, 1950 in Chenini , Tataouine governorate ) is a Tunisian politician of the constitutional democratic collection RCD (Rassemblement constitutionnel démocratique) , who was Minister for Economic Development from 1995 to 1999, Minister of Finance from 1999 to 2004 and Governor of the Banque Centrale de from 2004 to 2011 Tunisie was.

Life

After attending school, Baccar completed a degree in economics at the University of Tunis, which he completed in 1972 with a master's degree. A subsequent postgraduate study at the National School of Administration (École nationale d'administration) he finished in 1975 with a diploma. He then joined the Minister for Planning and Finance, where he was most recently Director General for Human Resources between 1986 and 1988. After serving as head of the Vocational Education and Employment Office from 1988 to 1990, he joined the newly created Ministry of Planning and Regional Development and then became Vice-Governor of the World Bank and President of the Arab Agency for Investment and Agricultural Development in 1992 .

In 1995, Baccar was appointed Minister for Economic Development in the cabinet of Prime Minister Hamed Karoui and held this post until the end of his term in November 1999. In the subsequent government of Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi , he took over the post of finance minister between November 1999 and 2004.

After leaving the Ghannouchi government, Baccar succeeded Mohamed Daouas as Governor of the Central Bank (Banque Centrale de Tunisie) in 2004 and held this position until he was replaced by Mustapha Kamel Nabli in 2011.

Baccar, who was also a member of the Central Committee of the Constitutional Democratic Collection RCD (Rassemblement constitutionnel démocratique) , was named Grand Officer of the Order of the Republic and Commander of the Order of November 7th for his services .
