Tara Cross-Battle (born September 16, 1968 in Houston , Texas ) is a former American volleyball player and today's coach. With the national team , she took part in the Olympic Games four times.

Career

Cross-battle began her career in 1986 with the Long Beach State 49ers , with whom she won the NCAA Division I in 1989 . Since 1989 she has played in the senior national team , with which she won the bronze medal at the 1990 World Cup in China and at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . She then played for three years in Italy for Brummel Ancona and won the European Cup Winners' Cup here in 1994 . With the national team she won the World Grand Prix in 1995 , won silver at the Pan American Games and was seventh at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta .

From 1996 to 2001, the outside attacker played in the Brazilian Super League at the clubs Leites Nestlé , Rio de Janeiro VC and Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . She won the national championship three times and the South American championship twice. With the national team she finished fourth at her third Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 . A year later she won the World Grand Prix and the NORCECA championship again . Then cross-battle switched to the Italian "Serie A1" to Foppapedretti Bergamo , where she became Italian champion and reached the final of the Champions League . In the following season she was active in the league rivals Pallavolo Reggio Emilia .

With the US national team, Cross-Battle became Vice World Champion in Germany in 2002 . A year later she won the Pan American Cup and reached third place at the World Cup in Japan . After a knee injury, she started in Athens for the last time at the Olympic Games in 2004 and was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Cross-Battle has won several awards as “Most Valuable Player” ( MVP ), “Best Point Collector” etc. In 2014 she was inducted into the " Volleyball Hall of Fame ".

After her active career, Cross-Battle trains youth teams in her Texan homeland.
