Taranes is one of nine parroquias in the municipality of Ponga in the autonomous region of Asturias in Spain .
The 79 inhabitants (2011) live in 3 villages in the Ponga Nature Park.
The name Taranes comes from the first Celtic settlements, where Taranis stands for the god of the sky.
Surrounded by the mighty mountains Tiatordos and Peña Taranes , Taranes is an impressive gateway to the Ponga Natural Park.
