Taras Schtonda

Taras Boryssowytsch Schtonda ( Ukrainian Тарас Борисович Штонда , also known as Taras Shtonda ; born December 1, 1966 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Taras Schtonda was born in Kiev in 1966. His father came from the village of Shkariwka near Bila Tserkva in Kiev Oblast , his mother from Kiev. Schtonda graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine Peter Tchaikovsky in Kiev in 1993 . Since 1992 he has been a soloist there at the National Opera of Ukraine and since 2002 he has appeared as a guest soloist at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow .

In April 2003 he played the role of Ruslan in the world premiere of the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila by Michail Glinka . He then sang this role in a specially restored opera with Alexander Wedernikow as conductor. The live recordings of the world premieres were released on three CDs in 2004. He also played the role of Vasily Kochubey at the opera at the Bolshoi Theater Mazeppa by Tchaikovsky and Johann Faust in the opera The Fiery Angel by Prokofiev . He also appeared there in Shostakovich's opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk as a priest, in Tchaikovsky's opera Jolanthe as King René and in Mussorgski's opera Boris Godunow as the same.

Schtonda toured in Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, the former Yugoslavia, Canada, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, South Korea and Hungary. He is the winner of numerous international competitions.
