Tarek Mohammed Kamel Mahmoud ( Arabic طارق محمد كامل محمود, DMG Ṭāriq Muḥammad Kāmil Maḥmūd ; * March 8, 1962 in Cairo ; † October 10, 2019 ) was an Egyptian politician .

Life

Tarek Mohammed Kamel Mahmoud completed a bachelor's degree in switching technology in 1985 and a master's degree in electronics from Cairo University in 1988 . From 1989 to 1992 he studied with the German Academic Exchange Service at the Technical University of Munich and did his doctorate in the field of computer networks . Tarek Mohammed Kamel Mahmoud was a member of the National Democratic Party (Egypt) . From 1992 to 1999 he conducted research at the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) and the Regional Center for Information Technology . Kamel was appointed advisor by Ahmad Nazif in 1999. In this role he managed a free internet project and supervised the construction of the telecommunications infrastructure in Egypt. Kamel, who sat on the supervisory board of Telecom Egypt from 2000 to 2004 , called for reforms such as tax cuts and the dismantling of bureaucracy to strengthen information technology. Tarek Kamel has chaired the Egyptian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) and was on the Board of Trustees of the Information Technology Institute (ITI). He spoke English, French and German, was married and had two sons.

Tarek Mohammed Kamel Mahmoud was Minister for Communications and Information Technology in the Nazif Cabinet and the Schafiq Cabinet and held this position until the Sharaf Cabinet was reshuffled on July 17, 2011 and which led to its replacement shortly afterwards. On 21 July 2011, Mohamed Abdel Qader Salim became the new minister in this office .
