Tariqilabeo bicornis is a freshwater fish from the family of carp fish (Cyprinidae). The species is common in China .

features

Tariqilabeo bicornis reaches standard lengths of about 150 mm. The body is slim, the front part of the body is somewhat cylindrical, the rear is flattened laterally. The head is small. The mouth is roughly conical with narrow triangular side lips in two sides. The snout expands downwards. The upper jaw and its edge are covered with tassels. The mouth is below . There is no upper lip, the lower lip is separated from the lower jaw with a transverse ligament in the front area and covered with warts. The eyes are medium in size. There are two pairs of barbels , the rostral pair being more than half the size of the diameter of the eyes and being at the tip of the muzzle side pit, and the maxillary pair being very small and hidden in the corners of the mouth. The number of rows of scales on the lateral line organ is 36 to 38. The back and the flanks are gray-black with diffuse stripes, the belly is gray-white. The dorsal fin and the central anal fin are gray-black, the caudal fin gray with a black lower edge. The eyes are red.

Distribution, habitat and way of life

The species inhabits the Saluen system in Lushui County and Baoshan County in Yunnan Province . Assumptions that the species also occurs in the lower reaches of the Saluen in Myanmar have not yet been confirmed. Tariqilabeo bicornis lives in the lower layers of rivers with clear water and gravel bottoms. The diet consists of detritus and algae.

The IUCN classifies the species in the category "insufficient data" (data deficient). The greatest threat could come from a planned dam construction on the Saluen.

Systematics

The species was described by Hsien-Wen Wu in 1977 as Epalzeorhynchus bicornis . In 2006, the kind of was Maurice Kottelat and E. Zhang in the new monotypic genus Akrokolioplax and in 2017 in the genre Tariqilabeo transferred.
