Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel (* 1959 as John Desmond Lewis ) is a British politician who was elected in the 1981 constituency by-election Crosby in the English county of Merseyside . The candidate's unusual name is based on a sketch by the British comedian group Monty Python .

After the Conservative MP Sir Graham Page died on October 1, 1981, a by-election in his constituency was necessary. One of the candidates for the vacant seat in Parliament was John Desmond Lewis, a student at St John's College in Cambridge who founded the Cambridge University Raving Loony Society (CURLS). Lewis had officially requested a name change before the High Court of Justice and has since appeared under the name Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel . This fantasy name comes from an episode of the BBC television series Monty Python's Flying Circus . In the 19th episode of the comedy show, this character competes in the Sketch Election Night Special as a candidate for the (fictional) Silly Party in the general election in Luton and surprisingly wins against the candidate for the Sensible Party .

Lewis was allowed to vote under his new name and stood on November 26, 1981 as one of a total of nine candidates for by-election. The winner of the election was the Social Democrat Shirley Williams . Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel, whose name was abbreviated to "Mr Tarquin Biscuit-Barrel" by the local election officer when the election results were announced , achieved fifth place with 223 votes (0.4% of the votes cast).

Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrels Cambridge University Raving Loony Society went in 1983 to the fun party Official Monster Raving Loony Party founded by Screaming Lord Sutch ( OMRLP), for which he stood in Cambridge in the general election in 1983 and reached last place with 286 votes. Previously, he was campaign manager for Sutch when he ran for his first candidacy in Bermondsey / London . After 1983, Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel no longer appeared, but he still counts more than 25 years after being elected in Crosby among the best-known members of the OMRLP.
