The Taseko River is a 132 km long right tributary of the Chilko River in central western British Columbia , Canada .

River course

The Taseko River rises in the Coast Mountains west of Porteau Mountain at an altitude of 2000  m . It initially flows in a northwest direction to the south end of the 7 km long Upper Taseko Lake . This is drained via a 1.5 km long drain to the 16 km long Lower Taseko Lake . Then the Taseko River flows over a distance of almost 100 km in a northerly direction through the southern part of the Chilcotin Plateau . The Elkin Creek flows on the left side into the river. Eventually the Taseko River reaches the Chilko River. The mean discharge below Lower Taseko Lake is 37.3 m³ / s. The highest monthly outflows usually occur in July.

River fauna

The following species of fish are found in the Taseko River: bull trout , king salmon , dolly varden trout , Catostomus catostomus (longnose sucker), Prosopium williamsoni (mountain whitefish), rainbow trout , sockeye salmon and steelhead trout .
