Tasos Mitsopoulos

Tasos Mitsopoulos ( Greek Τάσος Μητσόπουλος ; born May 30, 1965 in Larnaka ; † March 22, 2014 ) was a Cypriot politician .

He studied law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens . After that he was initially an advisor to the Greek Foreign Ministry, then office manager of Nikos Anastasiadis , the party leader of the conservative Cypriot party DISY , and press spokesman for this party.

In 2006 he was elected as a member of the DISY for the constituency of Larnaka in the Cypriot parliament, and in the following parliamentary election in 2011 he was re-elected. When Nikos Anastasiadis became President of Cyprus in 2013, he brought Mitsopoulos into his cabinet as Minister of Communications . After the DIKO left the government coalition, Mitsopoulos became Minister of Defense on March 14, 2014, succeeding DIKO politician Fotis Fotiou .

He died on March 22, 2014 at the age of 48 after suffering an intracerebral hemorrhage the day before .
