The Tatra-Pamorama-Rotunda (Polish: Panorama Tatr ) was a round building for the exhibition of the monumental panorama painting "Tatry" (German: Tatra ) in Warsaw . The rotunda was built in 1892 below the Vistula embankment in the inner city district (Powiśle district). Today only remains of the ruin exist.

history

The building was built in the 1890s to a design by Karol Kozłowski to present a panoramic image of the Tatra Mountains by Stanisław Janowski (1866–1942) and Antoni Piotrowski . Various pictures were shown here until 1902; the last monumental work exhibited was “Trzy dni Zbawienia”, also called “ Golgota ”, by Jan Styka . The pictures shown were 120 meters long and 16 meters high. The building was single-story and had a regular, twelve-sided floor plan. The roof was designed like a tent. Access was from Oboźna Street .

After the panorama pictures went out of fashion, the rotunda was rededicated; In 1910 it was converted into a theater. From 1911 on, mainly Jewish performances were offered. Among other things, the then well-known drama troupe of Abraham Kamiński performed here with their star (and his wife) Esther Rachel Kamińska until 1928 . From 1926 the theater was owned by Ida Kamińska and operated as the Warszawer Idiszer Kunstteater . The Wesoły Ul (Happy Beehive) cabaret was located in the building from 1936 to 1937 .

In 1938 the rotunda was converted into a car service station for the Chevrolet brand . The workshop was modern; the building now had three floors, the entrance was from Ulica Dynasy via a paved driveway. Since 1944 it served as a warehouse for the nearby Polish Theater ( Teatr Polski ) in ul. Karasia and was severely damaged by the war in the same year.
