Carl Maguire

Carl Maguire (* 1970 in Madison , Wisconsin ) is an American jazz musician ( piano , e-piano , synthesizer , electronics, accordion ) and composer.

Carl Maguire studied improvisation with Roscoe Mitchell at the University of Wisconsin . In 1995 he moved to New York City, where he continued his studies at Hunter College , Mannes College of Music and the CUNY Graduate Center , piano with Fred Hersch , Marilyn Crispell and Ursula Oppens , and composition with Mark Dresser . He has since worked with the Carter Thornton Assembly, Tyshawn Sorey, and Butch Morris ' New York Skyscraper . In 2005 Maguire released his debut album Floriculture on Between the Lines , followed by Sided Silver Solid (2009, with Oscar Noriega , Stephanie Griffin , John Hébert and Dan Weiss ) on Firehouse 12 Records . Together with drummer Shawn Baltazor he belongs to Brett Sroka's trio Ergo .
