history

The Poprad wagon works was integrated into the Vagonka Tatra Smíchov in 1948 . In 1952 the production of European-style bogies began. The Poprad plant became a monopoly manufacturer of bogies for the whole of Czechoslovakia. In the 1970s, the company became the largest manufacturer of freight wagons, producing 4,000 wagons per year. In 1986 the production of Y25 bogies began in the newly built halls. At that time, the plant produced 10,500 bogies a year.

In 2016, around 2000 cars and around 5700 bogies were produced.

Tatravagónka was privatized in 1994 and taken over in 2006 by Optifin Invest owned by Russian-born entrepreneur Alexej Beljajev. In 2012, Tatravagónka took over the Eisenbahnlaufwerke Halle (ELH) from Andreas Goer, the owner of AAE , and a partner. At the end of 2016, Optifin Invest still owned 52.54 percent of the shares, while Erdosa Investments Limited held the remaining stake.

In 2018, the logistics company Budamar took over 50 percent of the shares. At the beginning of September of the same year, ELH -Eisenbahnlaufwerke Halle (subsidiary of Tatravagonka) acquired the insolvent Saxon freight car manufacturer Waggonbau Niesky .
