Tavo Burat (birth name Gustavo Buratti Zanchi , born May 22, 1932 in Stezzano , Lombardy , † December 8, 2009 in Biella ) was an Italian journalist, writer and poet. Burat spent much of his life saving the Piedmontese language island. From 1964 Burat was secretary of an international association that wanted to save languages ​​and cultures that are threatened with extinction. His efforts focused on the Piedmontese language and the Franco-Provençal language .

biography

Burat was born in Stezzano . In 1938 he completed his studies in the canton of Graubünden with a thesis on a legal topic. He taught French at a middle school from 1968 to 1994 . Burat was a Waldensian .

He was the founder and first editor-in-chief of the regional newspaper La Slòira and also editor of ALP 1974–2009.

Burat was politically active in various functions, with a focus on ecological issues. From 1956 to 1994 he was a city council member in Biella . He worked as regional manager at PSI from 1975–1984 and was assessor at the Comunità montana Bassa Valle Elvo from 1970–1993 . As a representative of the Greens, he participated in the revision of the statutes of the Piedmont region . In the years 2000–2009 he was National Councilor for the Greens. He also worked from 1974 to 2009 as coordinator of the Centro studi dolciniani , and he was the founder of the Consiglio della Resistenza federativo di Biella .
