The 172 km long Tawa ( Hindi तवा नदी ) is the largest tributary of the Narmada in central India . Its mouth is near the city of Hoshangabad in the south of the state of Madhya Pradesh .
course
The Tawa rises in the Satpura Mountains in the Betul district about 30 km east of the small town of Shahpur . From there it flows first in a westerly direction, then later in a northward direction. It flows into the Narmada near the village of Bandra Bhan about 8 km northeast of the city of Hoshangabad .
Reservoirs
The tawa is stowed once:
- Tawa Reservoir , height and length of the dam wall 58 m and 1815 m (construction period 1956–1974)
use
River and reservoir are mainly used for irrigation (irrigation) of agricultural land in the area. The reservoir is also used for excursions and recreational purposes. There is a small power plant in the dam to generate electricity.
Nature reserve
The entire upper reaches of the Tawa is located in the Satpura National Park .
