criticism

In 2012, Keltek was criticized for not considering a study of the right-wing extremist Turkish Gray Wolves to be out of place »at the wrong time« and the »current concern« by the nail bomb attacks on Turkish fellow citizens by the NSU , "because the danger posed by Turkish people Right-wing extremists are not that big and such a study is "not absolutely necessary" in times of empty coffers ". In 2019, Keltek gained media attention as the state chairman of the NRW Integration Council for his proposal to abolish English lessons in primary schools in favor of Turkish, Polish or Russian for children with a migration background. Primary school lessons for children with a migrant background should be expanded. With the background that an improvement in the bilingual vocabulary especially for children with a migration background has a more favorable effect on the cognitive processes . This language-educational approach is therefore significantly more advantageous for children with a migration background than a trilingualism with undifferentiated vocabulary. The generalization process of memory could thus be significantly improved in children with a migration background and thus contribute to a significant improvement in school performance.

Honor

For his various voluntary activities in the field of the integration of immigrants, he was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on October 10, 2000 by the then Federal President Johannes Rau .
