Tayo Jessica Onutor , b. Awosusi (born March 8, 1978 in Karlsruhe ) or TAYO is a German R'n'B and soul singer who sings in English, German and Romani . As an Afro-Sintezza - as she calls herself - Awosusi-Onutor is not only musical, but also politically active. a. campaigns for the rights of the Sinti and Roma in the feminist groups IniRromnja and RomaniPhen , but is also politically active in various other communities of color .

Tayo Awosusi's mother is the German Sintezza and civil rights activist Anita Awosusi , who campaigns for the rights of the Sinti and Roma and publishes in this field. Her father is the soul and funk musician Hope Awosusi. Awosusi grew up in Karlsruhe, where she also graduated from high school in 1997. The name Tayo comes from the Nigerian Yoruba and means "child of joy". After studying at the universities of Heidelberg and Karlsruhe (German, English, multimedia) Awosusi moved to Berlin in 2004 and from then on devoted herself to her music.

Musical career

Tayo grew up in a musical family. At the age of nine she appeared for the first time as a guest singer in her father's funk and soul band ( The Funky Breeze Band ). She later became a permanent member of the band and also worked with other international musicians.

In 2004 she moved to Berlin and worked with Rudy Stevenson ( Duke Ellington Orchestra ) and Ferenc Snétberger , among others . In 2005, Awosusi and Snétberger recorded the song Kelas-Let's dance for the Japanese anime film Fullmetal Alchemist - The Film: The Conqueror of Shamballa . At the end of 2007 Awosusi was nominated as Best Pop / R'n'B Act by the African Youth Foundation - AYF in the Media / Entertainers category.

Awosusi synchronized several voices and vocal parts for television series such as Cold Case , Hello Holly , Todd's great world and Ricky Sprocket . Awosusi is currently working on her first album with her producer Loomis Green (guitarist for Jan Delay ).
