Fullmetal Alchemist - The Film: The Conqueror of Shamballa ( Japanese 劇場版 鋼 の 錬 金 術 師 シ ャ ン バ ラ を 征 く 者 , Gekijōban Hagane no Renkinjutsushi - Shanbara o Yuku Mono ) is a film for the anime series Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa . Studio Bones took over the production in cooperation with various other companies.

The plot of the film follows on from the end of the television series and develops it further, but does not rule out a sequel.

action

The plot begins two years after the television series ends. Edward Elric lives in Munich in this world in 1923 . Without his alchemical skills and Automail prostheses instead of his right arm and left leg, he experiments with Alfons Heiderich on building rockets.

At a festival where the rockets are to be demonstrated, he meets a gypsy woman, Noah, and helps her. Thereupon he gets caught in a conspiracy of the Thule Society , which wants to create a path between this world and that of Edward with the help of alchemy. Edward's world, which Dietlinde Eckhart of the Thule Society considers the legendary Shamballa , should then be conquered.

So it happens that Edward travels back to his world to save it. There he meets his brother Alphonse again, who has since followed in his footsteps. They manage to repel the invasion of the Thule Society. In the end, however, Edward returns to this world, this time with Alphonse.

New characters

There are many characters in the film that are not featured in the series. In addition to Heiderich, Noah and Dietlinde Eckhart, various National Socialists also appear, such as Rudolf Heß in the Thule Society and, in a scene in the Bürgerbräukeller on November 8, 1923, Adolf Hitler , who spoke there in the run-up to the Hitler-Ludendorff putsch . Hermann Oberth , the founder of rocket technology, appears as a teacher to Edward and Heiderich.

Furthermore, many people appear in this world who resemble characters from the series. This is to make it clear that it is a parallel universe . So Edward is helped by a Mabuse who is of Jewish descent. This one looks like King Bradley from Edward's world. He later reveals his identity as Fritz Lang . There is also an officer Hughes in the Munich police who appears frequently and is a member of the NSDAP.

music

For the film, L'Arc ~ en ~ Ciel produced the opening credits Link and LOST HEAVEN for the credits. The song KELAS [LET'S-DANCE] , which is sung and played by a Roma woman in the film, was composed by Ferenc Snétberger and sung by Tayo Awosusi .

A CD was also released for the film in Japan with the soundtrack, which comprises 46 tracks.

Publications

It premiered in Japanese cinemas on July 23, 2005 and the DVD was released on January 25, 2006. The film was shown in a small number of American cinemas in 2006 and was released on DVD in the USA on September 12, 2006 . It has appeared in Hong Kong , Taiwan , Canada and Australia and has been translated into French, Italian, Polish and Portuguese. It was broadcast in English on Starz Edge and YTV (Canada).
