Teal Bunbury (born February 27, 1990 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is an American - Canadian football player .

Youth and college

Bunbury was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1990. His mother is from the United States and his father, former professional soccer player Alex Bunbury , is Canadian. He moved to England with his family at the age of two as his father played at West Ham United . A year later, Alex Bunbury moved to Marítimo Funchal in Portugal . When Teal was ten years old, he returned to the United States. From then on he lived in Prior Lake , Minnesota and attended Shattuck-St. Mary's High School in Faribault . Before going to college, he played for Apple Valley Juventus.

At the University of Akron , he played on the college team for two years and was used in 48 games. In the 2008 season he scored six goals in 23 games, becoming the team's second-best goalscorer. For the 2009 season, the previous favorite striker Steve Zakuani left the team and Bunbury was used in all games, including the final of Division I Men's College Cups. With 17 goals he became the most successful goalscorer of the year in college football. During the season, Bunbury received many awards. He was voted Player of the Week three times in the Mid-American Conference and was on the Top Drawer Soccer's national team of the week.

During his time in college he also played for Rochester Thunder in the USL Premier Development League and for Chicago Fire Premier in the USL Super-20 League.

Club career

After two years with the Akron Zips, Bunbury decided to keep playing soccer and signed a generation Adidas deal with Major League Soccer . He was drafted by the Kansas City Wizards in the first round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.

He made his debut on March 27, 2010 in the Wizards' first game of the 2010 MLS season against DC United . On April 13, he scored his first goal in the US Open Cup game against the Colorado Rapids . Although he appeared as a center forward during his college days, he plays more in the attacking midfield or behind the tops in the MLS.

After four years at Sporting, he moved to New England Revolution on February 19, 2014 . Kansas City received a transfer fee and the right to a pick in the first round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

National team

Bunbury played for the U-17 and U-20 of Canada from 2007 to 2009 . Although he stated in an interview that he did not want to play for the USA, but for Canada, he accepted the invitation to the senior national team of the USA on November 11, 2010 .

On November 17, 2010 he made his international debut against South Africa.

In his second international match, Bunbury scored his first international goal. In a test match against Chile on January 22, 2011, he scored a penalty in the 75th minute and thus equalized the final score 1: 1.
