The Tealing Parish Church is a former parish church of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish village of Tealing in the Council Area Angus . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

According to tradition, it is an early Christian site in Scotland. Saint Boniface is said to have built a church in Tealing as early as the late 7th century. However, their exact location cannot be determined. The earliest written evidence of a church in Tealing is from the 12th century. Between 1719 and 1728 John Glass , co-founder of the Glassites , was a parish priest there. The medieval church building was demolished in 1806 and replaced by the current building. In 1895, Alexander Johnston revisedthe Tealing Parish Church. Among other things, central heating was installed here. After the merger of two parishes in 1986, the building became obsolete and transferred to the Tealing Kirk Heritage Center . In 1991 the unused structure was placed on the register of endangered listed structures in Scotland. In 2016, his condition was classified as relatively good with a moderate risk at the same time.

The Tealing Parish Church is isolated on the western edge of the village. The brickwork of the simple, elongated hall church consists of quarry stone . On the north side there is a small, one-story sacristy with a half-hipped roof ; above two angels. On the left a staircase leads to the boiler room in the basement. On the four axes wide south side there is a granite commemorative plaque on an older sandstone memorial of the Scrymsoure Fothringham family . The entrance area emerges on the Harl- plastered east side. On the west gable of the slate-covered gable roof sits a small ridge turret with an open bell.
