Techau is a district of the community Ratekau in the Ostholstein district with 1589 inhabitants (2016).

history

Techau, as the name is derived from Techgowe and is first mentioned as such in a document in 1322, can be traced back to a settlement of Slavic origin - the settlement of Tech. After the Diocese of Lübeck introduced the Reformation in 1561, Techow came into the possession of the bishop. The Plön Treaty of 1842 brought about territorial reform. A municipality ordinance announced on June 22, 1857 that Techau with Sereetz , Ratekau , Pansdorf , Groß- and Klein-Timmendorf , Hobbersdorf , Hemmelsdorf, Rohlsdorf, Ruppersdorf and Luschendorf form the municipality of West-Ratekau . The seat of the administration was in Pansdorf at this time.

economy

Techau's economy is predominantly characterized by agriculture. Also of importance are a mill and feed company located on the Schwartau river, which was dammed up for this purpose, as well as an industrial area established in the 1970s. In addition to a guest house, there is a hotel in Techau, as well as a few small shops. The village shop in the center is closed. In 2011 a wine, sparkling wine and spirits specialist opened. In addition to the wine trade, there is the Jordan specialist painter. The wine trade has been closed since the end of 2017, and a small breakfast café opened there in April 2018. There is also a plumbing company, Hanseatische Sanitär, and a well-known auction hall. The inn was closed at the end of 2016, and a law firm is to be opened in its place.

In addition to its own elementary school, Techau has a former school principal's service apartment, which was converted into a community house in 1980, which can now be used for events by clubs and organizations.
