Plön contract

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Plön Treaty was a treaty concluded on February 14, 1842 between King Christian VIII of Denmark and Grand Duke Paul Friedrich August of Oldenburg , in which a mutual exchange of territory between the Duchy of Holstein and the Principality of Lübeck (as part of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg) was agreed. With the "Plön Treaty", which came into force on January 1, 1843, the resulting fragmentation of the area was cleared up considerably, thus simplifying administration.

As a result of the Plön Treaty, the Principality of Lübeck consisted of two closed areas (previously an area of 400 square kilometers which consisted of ten parts) around Eutin and Schwartau - they were not merged into one area, as Oldenburg did not want to forego one of the two historical centers of its possessions and Denmark did not want to cross foreign territory for the Altona-Neustädter Chaussee .

In the Principality of Lübeck, following the Treaty of Plön, the Kaltenhof Office and the Großvogtei Office were combined to form the new Schwartau Office . The possessions combined in the Amt Kollegiatstift fell to Holstein.

A customs union was agreed in the Plön Treaty , whereby the Principality of Lübeck became part of the Danish-Holstein customs area.
