The Großvogtei office was an administrative district of the Principality of Lübeck with its seat in Schwartau .

The office of Großvogtei as part of the Principality of Lübeck emerged as part of the secularization of 1804
- the administration of the Lübeck Cathedral Chapter (as part of the Lübeck bishopric) designated by the Grand Bailiwick and
- of (the College) Cathedral of the vicars self-managed, as Vikarie donated villages.
The beginnings of the Großvogtei office can be traced back to the 14th century .

In 1825 the villages were
- Techelwitz ,
- Teschendorf ,
- Klein Wessek and
- (Parts of) Rellin
removed from the office of the Großvogtei and incorporated into the office of collegiate monastery .
- In 1842 , as a result of the implementation of the Plön Treaty, an exchange of territory between the Principality of Lübeck and Holstein was made to clear up the scattered possessions.

- the village of Hamberge ,
- the village of Hansfelde ,
- the landlord-Community rights over Kesdorf ,
- the village of Klein Barnitz ,
- the village of Tankenrade ,

of Holstein . As a result, the “Amt Großvogtei” located in Schwartau was dissolved in 1843 and the part of the areas remaining with the Principality of Lübeck was combined with the Amt Kaltenhof, also located in Schwartau , to form the Amt Schwartau .
