Technology (school subject)
The subject technology is an independent subject. In some states, however, it belongs in the secondary along with the subjects of economics and utility of the learning area work teaching .
Technical teaching in secondary schools
In the comprehensive schools of the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate , technology is part of the general canon of subjects . In the upper level of comprehensive schools and grammar schools in North Rhine-Westphalia, technology is a compulsory elective subject with the option of setting up basic and advanced courses . It can be taken as a written subject with a central Abitur or as an oral Abitur subject. In secondary schools in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, it is part of the subject canon and in secondary schools it is offered as an elective. In Saxony-Anhalt the subject technology is secondary compulsory subject and in the secondary education an elective subject in all secondary schools . As a rule, it is taught at secondary schools and comprehensive schools in different grades. Technology is also taught in more and more schools in upper secondary level. In Germany, technology is also taught as an elective subject at some comprehensive schools. The subject technology is based on extensive technology didactics . The aim of this subject is that students
- Know, apply and reflect on basic technical principles,
- get to know technical professions and their fields of work and activities,
- Recognize and evaluate the effects and influence of technology on people and the environment,
- Recognize problems and find ways to solve them with the help of technology.
Extended technical instruction at technical high schools
At the technical grammar school , the subject technology is split up into different subject areas:
- mechanical engineering
- Materials science
- Statics
- Electrical engineering / digital technology
- environmental engineering
- Design and media technology
The individual technical subjects are offset in the technical grade according to their number of hours.
