The Technical Academy Wuppertal e. V. , or TAW for short, is one of Germany's oldest and largest further education institutes. Its founding place and its headquarters are in the listed Villa Eisfeller (also known as Villa Hörlein ) in the Zooviertel , a large villa colony in the formerly independent Wuppertal district of Elberfeld . Another location was the Linde house ( 51 ° 13 ′ 24 ″ N , 7 ° 5 ′ 19.4 ″ E ) in Wuppertal- Vohwinkel .
The TAW is an external institute of the RWTH Aachen and a contact study institute of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . Over 2500 day seminars, extra-occupational certificate courses and study programs, in-house seminars, conferences and congresses are offered every year - at five training centers in Germany and one location in Poland. The spectrum ranges from technical, legal and business content to leadership, communication and management topics.
history
Foundation and expansion
The TAW was founded in 1948 as an independent association in Wuppertal (North Rhine-Westphalia) in order to create a facility for further training for war returnees in the Bergisches Land . One aim of this facility was to bring architects, engineers, chemists and physicists up to date in all practice-relevant fields of work in the post-war years, as they were often torn from their jobs for years by the war. The resulting knowledge deficits should be compensated for in short training units (seminars).
In the period that followed, the TAW expanded its thematic spectrum to include all further training measures for all areas of professional life.
In the course of the content-related expansion of the offer, the TAW also expanded spatially and founded the training center in Altdorf b. Nuremberg and in 1987 the training center in Bochum. After reunification, the TAW was one of the first independent educational institutions to get involved in the new federal states : in 1990 with a training center in Cottbus and in 1991 with an academy in Wildau near Berlin. TAW is also active in other European countries with a training center in Poland.
Realignment from 2005
As of 2005, the Technical Academy Wuppertal realigned its further training offer. For the non-technical professions , the TAW founded the “themed academies”. Further training is offered in eight academies - from seminars and extra-occupational certificate courses to in-house events and conferences through to part-time studies with a state qualification.
In addition, various technical competence centers were founded under the umbrella of the Technical Academy Wuppertal, in which, in addition to subject-specific, technical content, overarching topics such as quality management , product liability , patent law and management skills are dealt with.
