Teddy Smith

Theodore "Teddy" Smith (* 22. January 1932 in Washington, DC ; † 24. August 1979 ) was an American jazz - bassist of the Modern Jazz .

Teddy Smith was involved in the recording of Sonny Criss ' Cole Porter album in 1956 . In 1960 he played in the backing band of the singer Betty Carter , 1961/62 in the band of the saxophonist Clifford Jordan ( Bearcat ). In April 1962 he worked on Kenny Dorham's album Matador . In 1962/63 he worked with Jackie McLean and Slide Hampton . In the summer of 1964, Smith played with Sonny Rollins ( The Standard Rollins ). Smith was then best known for his participation in the Horace Silver album Song for My Father , which recorded his quintet with Joe Henderson and Carmell Jones in October 1964 for Blue Note ; He also performed with Silver in 1964 at the jazz festivals in Montreux , Antibes and Paris . In August 1966 he was still on Sonny Simmons ' ESP album Staying on the Watch with; In the period after that there were no further jazz recordings with the bassist.
