history

Klaus Wowereit

Karsten Morschett and Thomas Vetsch are founders and operators of Teddy Tour Berlin. They got the idea when they were looking for a present for a friend, whose cuddly toy they then photographed at various locations in Berlin. They are now receiving bookings from people between the ages of six and over 70 and from various countries; In some cases, the owners of the cuddly toys are no longer able to make the trip themselves and let their cuddly toy travel on their behalf. Animals are also sent on a journey to commemorate the deceased who would have liked to have been or would have been in Berlin. Teddy Tour Berlin supports the “Nestwärme” association, was invited by Klaus Wowereit to the Wappensaal of the Red City Hall in 2009 and was appointed Ambassador to Berlin in the same year. Teddy Tour Berlin was featured in numerous press, radio and television reports.

offer

Morschett and Vetsch especially offer tours of Berlin by bike or public transport for cuddly toys that are traveling without their owners. Souvenir photos are taken at various points on the tour, and the animals also bring a small souvenir home with them. Care by a physiotherapist and a picnic can also be booked. In addition to the city tours, longer stays in Berlin are also possible. The cuddly toys usually arrive by post from their owners to Morschett and Vetsch and back.

There are standardized rounds that can be booked for the animals, but also individual offers. A dominatrix from Munich once sent a Sado Maso bear to be shown the relevant bars. In 2010, the deluxe package and a queer tour were booked for a 1.50 meter high plush giraffe from Helsinki .

Role models and imitators

In an article in Focus , Christian Haas recalls the travels of the garden gnome in The fabulous world of Amélie , in which he believes he recognizes an archetype of cuddly toy journeys . He also states that “personal disadvantages and conflicts are projected into the cuddly toy”, which happens so often that the market for proxy travel also allows competing products. Among other things, he lists the travel guide for Teddy & Co. by Polyglott. In Der Spiegel there is a report about a Prague businessman who is pursuing the same concept as Morschett and Vetsch.
