The Tekeze-Setit is a river in Ethiopia and Sudan .

In Ethiopia the river is called Tekeze ( Amharic ተከዜ takäze; also Tekezé ) and in Sudan and in the border area between Sudan and Ethiopia the river is called Setit .

course

It has a length of 608 km, rises as Tekeze in the central highlands about 40 km east of Lalibela and flows first west, then north. After it has flown around the massif around the Ras Daschän (Simien), it swings west and for a short time forms the westernmost part of the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea , where it flows towards Sudan . As soon as the Tekeze enters Sudan, it becomes the Setit River , which flows into the Atbara .

Hydrology

The flow rate of the river was measured in Embamadre in m³ / s

Its water flow was concentrated on the rainy season in July, August and September. Since the Tekeze Dam near the Ras Dashän went into operation in September 2009, the water flow has become more balanced.
