Telegraphs in Negative / Mouths Trapped in Static -

Telegraphs in Negative / Mouths Trapped in Static is a double album by the Canadian post-rock collective Set Fire to Flames . The album is the band's last sign of life to this day. It was recorded for several months in late 2002, and then released by Alien8 Recordings and FatCat Records in 2003.

Overview

The album itself was recorded in an old cabin in rural Ontario , Canada . The atmosphere during the recording was decidedly irrelevant - the sounds of the band members walking around and talking can be clearly heard during the quiet moments in the album. Like their first album, Sings Reign Rebuilder , this album was recorded "in states of little or no sleep, in varying states of intoxication and in physical limitations."

Mike Moya about the album: "We took tents with us, slept in front of the barn, sometimes we recorded something at four o'clock in the morning, sometimes we didn't do anything before evening, we wandered through the countryside."

The album used many different instruments, including guitars, bass guitars, strings, horns, glockenspiels, marimbas, bass clarinets, saws, cymbalons, hurdy-gurdy music boxes, modified electronic devices, and microphones. This album - different from its predecessor - is more about sound than composition, it contains musical emptiness and drones.
