Temel Kotil (born December 3, 1959 in Gündoğdu , Rize , Turkey ) was CEO of Turkish Airlines from 2005 to 2016 .

Life

Kotil graduated in 1983 a degree in aerospace engineering at the Istanbul Technical University (ITU). In 1986 he graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in aerospace engineering in the United States . Here he also received his second degree in mechanical engineering and submitted his doctoral thesis in 1991.

From 1991 to 1993 he was the founder of the laboratories in the Aerospace Faculty of the Istanbul Technical University. From 1993 to 1994 he was deputy dean of this faculty.

After working as a visiting professor in Illinois in 2001 and later in New York as Head of Research and Development at AIT Inc., he was in charge of research, planning and coordination of the traffic network in the metropolitan government of Istanbul .

In 2003 he started his career at Turkish Airlines (THY) as Deputy Technical Director. In 2005, Kotil was appointed Turkish Airlines General Manager.

He was elected board member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 2006 and a board member of the Association of European Airlines (AEA) in 2010.

He is married and has four children. Kotil has been a member of the Turkish Engineering Society since 1991 and a member of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association.

On January 1, 2014, Kotil was elected President of the European Airlines Association.

Kotil announced his resignation as CEO of Turkish Airlines on October 21, 2016; Bilal Ekşi will take over his position.

Since November 2016, Kotil has been Chief Executive Officer of the Turkish aviation and defense company Tusaş .
