The stallion Tempelhüter (* December 20, 1904 in Trakehnen , † January 16, 1933 ibid) was the most important main stallion of the Prussian main stud Trakehnen , along with Perfectionist xx , Steam Horse and Pythagoras . He was so important for breeding that a bronze statue with his image was erected in Trakehnen.

Life

The dark brown stallion Tempelhüter was the son of the main sire Perfectionist xx and the mare Teichrose von Jenissei.

From 1909 to 1915 Tempelhüter was state sire in Braunsberg , then from 1916 to 1931 main sire in Trakehnen. He covered 495 mares in Trakehnen, who left 333 live foals , 59 of which became Trakehner dam mares and 65 sires. He also left 115 auction horses.

Tempelhüter had aged 17 years Height cm from 159th Its considerable body length of 166 cm was striking. With this he came very close to the breeding goal of creating a horse that "stands over more ground".

reception

A bronze statue of the temple guardian by the sculptor Reinhold Kuebart was erected in front of the Landstallmeisterhaus Trakehnen in 1932 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the stud. In 1944 it was brought to Moscow by the Red Army as a trophy for victory, where it was later placed in front of the Ministry of Agriculture - Faculty of Animal Breeding. In 1989/90 hooligans damaged the memorial, after which a fire destroyed the bronze glaze. The damage has now been repaired, among other things through donations from horse lovers in the USA. Now Temple Guardian has been given a safer place inside the Agriculture Museum.

In 1974 a Russian low-loader brought an original cast of the bronze temple guardian to Verden an der Aller. Today this cast of the temple guardian still stands in front of the German Horse Museum there . Since September 29, 2013, a reconstruction of the monument in original size, based on photographs, has stood on its old location, the base in front of the Landstallmeisterhaus in Trakehnen.
