Tenker
The Tencteri ( Latin Tencteri , Greek Τέγκτηροι , Τέγκτεροι Tenkteroi ) was a well-known for his horsemanship Germanic tribe that originally the Lower Rhine, north of the Usipetern , moved.
Tacitus mentions the Tenkeros in his Germania in connection with their riding skills. So the riders of Tencteri should denselbigen fame as the rank and file of the chat have enjoyed. Horses from childhood to old age also played a major role in the life of the Tenkerer and, according to inheritance law, are said to have been passed on to the son who earned the highest honors in the war.
Ousted by the Suebi , the Tenkerians crossed with the Usipeters in winter 56/55 BC. The Rhine , but were repulsed by Gaius Iulius Caesar . In an alliance with the Germanic tribes of the Usipeter and the Sugambrer , they crossed around 17 BC. The Rhine again and defeated the Roman governor Marcus Lollius ( clades Lolliana ). Later they had to submit to the Romans as part of the Drusus campaigns (12 to 8 BC).
The Rhine-Weser Germanic tribes of the Brukterer , Tenkerer , Sugambrer, Usipeter, Chattuarier , Chamaven and Ampsivarians united to form the Franks from the 3rd century AD . Chatten (Hessen) were added later.
