Teodor Cosma

Teodor Cosma (born August 7, 1910 in Bucharest , Romania; † October 9, 2011 in Paris , France) was a Romanian pianist , arranger and conductor . He is the brother of the conductor Edgar Cosma and the father of the film music composer Vladimir Cosma .

biography

Teodor Cosma's family originally comes from Craiova . However, Cosma himself was born in Bucharest, where he also studied music at the national conservatory. He continued his training in Paris with the pianist Lazare Lévy at the Conservatoire de Paris and Jean Wiener . At the beginning of 1930 he returned to Romania, where he led various orchestras, including the Radio Jazz Orchestra from 1934 to 1940, the orchestra of the Hebrew theater "Barașeum" in Bucharest in 1942 and the band "Mon Jardin" from 1947 to 1950 , before he took over the orchestra direction at Electrecord , the most important Romanian record producer , in 1950 .

Cosma discovered and promoted several Romanian musicians at the beginning of their careers, including the composer Marius Constant and the conductor Sergiu Celibidache . In 1962 Cosma left his homeland with his wife and son, Vladimir Cosma, who later became a successful composer of numerous film scores.
