Terra Militaris is a browser- based MMORPG and strategy game developed by the Chinese developer Suzhou Snail Electronic Co., Ltd. (Snail Games) and, just like the US version Ministry Of War , is distributed by Snail Games itself. The game was released in Europe on November 27, 2010 and distributed by Gala.net until November 2014 .

Game scenario

At the beginning of the game, players are asked which ancient civilization they want to belong to. You can choose between the historical nations of Rome , Egypt , Persia and China . Each race has different advantages that players can benefit from. For example, Roman units have more hit points and Chinese players benefit from faster building production. As the game progresses, special forces based on the various nations can be researched, for example Egyptian Werereten or Persian war elephants. After a character has been selected and names have been given for the starting hero and the capital, players are introduced to the game through several tutorial quests.

The tutorial concludes with founding your first city. This is still in the first of a total of 6 research eras, which can be achieved by accumulating fame points and achieving pre-set research and / or expansion goals. Buildings and researches usually have a maximum expansion level of 25 and progressively require more time and resources for further expansion. There are 5 different raw materials in Terra Militaris, which are naturally regenerated and produced faster by expanding raw material buildings: food, wood, stone, metal and gold. In addition, the growth rate can be increased through various shop items and research. Another way of obtaining raw materials is to plunder other players' cities.

Another main component of the game are heroes who can be recruited in the form of war heroes, traders and missionaries in the tavern and, since recent updates, also via various other game content. War heroes represent the leaders of the players' armies and can increase their effectiveness through skills, attributes and equipment. Merchants can be sent to different cities to buy goods and sell them for profit in other cities. Missionaries are used to extend the sphere of influence or the territory of the player. Heroes gain experience through these actions and can be trained up to a level of 100 in classic RPG style. War heroes, who have a maximum level of 120, are an exception.

Terra Militaris is a so-called MMO RTS and a server can hold between several hundred and several thousand players. Like most MMORTSs, the world of Terra Militaris is persistent, but there are various events that are instanced, such as the attack on caves, arena battles or battles for neutral areas.

struggle

Battles are a central part of Terra Militaris. A distinction is made between fighting against a computer opponent (sometimes with other players) and fighting against other players. As they level up, war heroes can wear better equipment, learn higher-quality skills and lead more units, and do more damage to opponents.

Battles can be controlled manually by players or via an automatic combat AI . Players can exit and re-enter combat at any time. Battles are usually started with a countdown so players can prepare for battle or give control to the AI. A fight lasts - depending on the mode - between 5 and 20 minutes. Depending on who won, heroes receive a corresponding amount of experience, raw materials and / or equipment. Destroyed units are usually lost and have to be re-trained, while heroes themselves cannot permanently "die".

aims

Depending on a player's style of play, there are several goals to achieve in Terra Militaris. A player can, for example, strive to have the greatest area of influence and therefore focus on expanding this with the help of his missionaries through temples and homage. Other players may want to join guilds and conquer neutral territories to fight against players from other nations. Player-versus-player fans can of course let their heroes take part in arena battles at any time and storm the arena rankings.

Guilds

Various game functions in Terra Militaris are reserved for guilds. For example, battles for neutral areas, which are needed to found additional cities. There is also a shop with many different helpful items that are reserved for members. In order to get hold of these you need coins that you get by completing guild tasks. In addition, guild resources are obtained through them, which increase the expansion of the buildings and thus the player advantages and the maximum number of players in the group. Guilds can only include players from the same nation.
