Terence John "Terry" Cooke (born August 5, 1976 in Marston Green ) is a former English football player .

Athletic career

Cooke went through all of Manchester United's youth departments. In September 1995 he made his professional debut in the Premier League against the Bolton Wanderers . He got off to a very good start in the early days at United, but was repeatedly thrown back by several injuries.

For this reason, a number of lending deals to various English clubs followed. In 1999 he was sold to Manchester City , to whom he was previously loaned, for £ 1 million . Cooke could not assert himself there either and was loaned out again.

In 2002 he played for Grimsby Town before moving back to Sheffield Wednesday in 2003. From there he went to Major League Soccer for the Colorado Rapids in 2005. From the 2008 season he was captain of the team before he was removed from the squad in July 2009 after a total of 106 games, so as to enable the substitute commitment of Jamie Smith from Aberdeen FC a month later. The subsequent attempt to join the Seattle Sounders failed after a trial training session, just like at Nottingham Forest , where Cooke then trained.

In late November 2009 he received a short-term contract to replace the injured James Robinson with the Australian club North Queensland Fury .
