Terry Davis
Terence Anthony Gordon "Terry" Davis CMG (born January 5, 1938 in Stourbridge , Great Britain ) is a British politician and manager who was Secretary General of the Council of Europe from 2004 to 2009 .
Terry Davis, born in Stourbridge, represented the British Labor Party for around 28 years for the constituency of Birmingham Hodge Hill in Parliament . He also worked as a manager in the English automotive industry . From 1992 onwards, as a member of the British delegation, he represented the interests of the United Kingdom within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
On September 1, 2004, he was elected to succeed Walter Schwimmer as Secretary General of the Council of Europe in the regular elections , after he had prevailed with 157 to 91 votes against the incumbent and the Estonian Foreign Minister Kristiina Ojuland .
