Franz Karasek

Franz Karasek (born April 22, 1924 in Vienna ; † March 10, 1986 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and a member of the National Council from 1970 to 1979 .

Karasek attended high school after elementary school and passed the Matura in 1942. He studied international law in Paris and also studied at the University of Vienna. He began his professional career in the Federal Chancellery in the Department of Foreign Affairs. He was secretary to Federal Chancellors Leopold Figl and Julius Raab and in 1956 became counselor in Paris. In 1960 he moved to Moscow as counselor, and in 1964 he became head of the cabinet of Josef Klaus . In 1966 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Education as section head.

Karasek joined the ÖVP in 1951 and worked in various party-affiliated organizations. He was President of the Culture Commission and General Reporter of the Political Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and represented the ÖVP in the National Council from March 31, 1970 to October 2, 1979. He then worked from 1979 to 1984 as Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Karasek had been a member of the KaV Norica Vienna Catholic student association since 1947 .
