Teruo Kono

Teruo Kono (* 1934 in Yokohama , Japan ; † April 22, 2000 in Hamburg ) was a Japanese Wadō-Ryū - karate master.

Short biography

At the age of six he began to learn karate . Teruo Kono's father was a building contractor and an officer in the Imperial Guard during World War II . His family had a long Budo tradition.

Teruo Kono worked in Japan as an architect, engineer, manager and commercial consultant. In Germany he was a managing partner and managing director in import and export companies and a consultant consulting company in Hamburg. Since 1993 he has acted as the Japanese government's special envoy for Expo 2005 in Nagoya .

During his studies at the Nidachi University in Tokyo he trained intensively Wadō-Ryū Karate with Hironori Ōtsuka .

In the mid-1960s he came to Europe, where he spread the Wadō-Ryū with Tatsuo Suzuki . Later he was national coach for England, Holland and Yugoslavia. In the mid-1970s he founded his own association, WadoKai Germany , with which he later joined the DKV ( German Karate Association ). Teruo Kono was technical advisor to the national trainer in the DKV and trainer of the Wado group in the DKV. In addition, he regularly gave karate courses in Germany and Europe and took exams for higher belts. Teruo Kono wrote several books on karate. In 1995 he was awarded the title of Hanshi (Grand Master) by JKF Wadokai Japan .

Teruo Kono was 8th Dan Wado Ryu Hanshi and 8th Dan Shindo Yoshinryu Jiu Jitsu Kempo until he died on April 22, 2000 after a serious illness.
