Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure , often referred to by its working title Project Fedora in reporting , is an adventure and interactive film for Windows , Mac OS and Linux . It is the sixth title in the science fiction computer game series about the private detective Tex Murphy , developed by the American developer Big Finish Games. Around 16 years after the last game was published and with financial help from a crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter online platform , Tesla Effect was released on April 22, 2014.

Like the three immediate predecessors, Tesla Effect uses interactive film techniques to tell its story. All figures are represented by actors who act in front of a computer-generated backdrop ( full motion video ). It takes place in post-apocalyptic San Francisco in 2050 , several years after the devastating 3rd World War, and takes up the content- related cliffhanger of the predecessor Tex Murphy: Overseer . Tex Murphy wakes up with no memory on the fire escape outside his office on the roof of the Ritz Hotel. What initially appears as a film tear as a result of excessive alcohol consumption turns out to be the deliberate erasure of Tex's memory of the last seven years. The search for his lost memories forms the motivation for Tex's investigations, in which he uncovered a great threat. The research documents and inventions of the physicist Nikola Tesla that were confiscated by the state play a role .
Game principle and technology
The player explores the locations of the 3D game world from the first person perspective . The main task is to search for clues and useful objects as well as to question other characters. There are variations in the gameplay and plot based on player decisions.
Production notes
When Microsoft took over Access Software in 1999, there were plans to continue the series. But with the collapse of the adventure game market and Microsoft's increasing focus on the console market, it never came to fruition. In 2008 Chris Jones and Aaron Conners acquired the trademark rights, but could still not find a financier. After the unexpected financial success of the Double Fine Adventure , the Tex-Murphy core team around Jones and Conners tried to revive the series with the help of a Kickstarter campaign from May 15, 2012 . The financing was successfully completed on June 7, 2012. Nearly 7,000 backers donated a little less than $ 600,000, exceeding the original funding goal of $ 450,000. On August 29, 2013, Big Finish Games announced an agreement with Atlus that the company would take over the distribution and marketing of the game. A demo of the game was released in early April 2014.
