description

This deciduous deciduous tree reaches heights of up to 15 meters. The bark of the branches is gray-brown. Before the leaves shoot, the buds grow upwards. The alternate leaves are oval to heart-shaped and face the summit. In addition, they are 7 to 12 cm long, toothed and crisscrossed with five to seven main veins. The tree owes its name to its spur-like growths on the twigs and branches where the leaves sprout. Stipules are present.

The flowers appear in spring in 9 to 15 cm long catkin-shaped inflorescences that gradually enlarge and open during summer. The flowers contain four tepals , four stamens and four fused carpels that form an upper ovary .
