The Shrubby germander ( Teucrium fruticans ) is a plant type from the genus germander ( Teucrium ) in the family of Labiatae (Lamiaceae).

description

The shrubby germander is an evergreen shrub with a height of up to 2.5 m. The twigs are square and hairy with white felts. The leaves are lanceolate to ovate, with entire margins, flat and with a short stalk. The underside is hairy white or reddish tomentose, the upper side is thinly tomentose and often bald and becomes shiny.

The inflorescence consists of pseudo whorls of two flowers that sit in the axilla of foliage-like bracts . The calyx is bell-shaped, whitish tomentose on the outside and hairless on the inside. The crown is 15 to 25 mm long and colored blue or purple. The stamens protrude far beyond the crown.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.

Occurrence

The species is distributed in the western Mediterranean area and is also found in Portugal and on the Adriatic islands of Dalmatia . It grows in dry, sunny locations. Their distribution area includes the countries Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Portugal, Spain, France, Sardinia, Corsica, Italy, Sicily and the former Yugoslavia.
